Overview

Yoga therapy is the tailored application of Yoga techniques, adapted to fit the current needs and interests of the individual.

  • It is an integrated mind-body approach for restoring balance and adaptive functioning to the physical, physiological, and mental/emotional systems.

  • It is a self-empowering process, as you will be devised a specific programme to suit your needs. This is your personal practise to do by yourself, and to enable positive changes to happen a commitment to practice on a regular basis is necessary. The practice will develop and grow as the individual does.

  • Different techniques are focussed on, depending on the clients objective, they include: gentle movement and postures for the body, breathing practices, meditation and relaxation techniques.

  • Conditions that can be supported by Yoga Therapy: Physical injury, chronic pain, anxiety, depression and stress, chronic fatigue, digestive problems, insomnia, chronic illness such as cancer treatment support or rehabilitation, multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia.

  • It can also be used to help establish more functional breathing and movement patterns. It is a complimentary therapy, not only beneficial for those with a specific issue, but also those new to Yoga who would like an introduction, and those more experienced Yoga practitioners wanting to deepen their practice.

  • It is a progressive and non invasive process that aims to restore balance, increase vitality and manage symptoms.

Yoga therapy is suitable for all, no experience is necessary.

Investment: Initial appointment (90 minutes) $85

Follow up appointments (75-90 minutes) $75

To establish a practice, and to encourage progress and results, block booking is recommended. I offer a discounted rate of $210 for 3 sessions to help encourage this. This can be paid individually, $70 per session, or all at once.

Please note there is an extra $5 charge for house visits outside of Nelson.

What to expect from a session:

Each client is requested to complete a health questionnaire before the initial appointment. This is to give me an idea of what the client would like to focus on, and any specific health conditions or injuries that are current.

Structure:

  • Each session tends to begin with a discussion together, based on information already given to define the primary concerns, goals and intentions for the practice.

  • Gentle movements and positions will be investigated to enable me to assess levels of physical restriction, discomfort and breathing patterns.

  • Through exploration together, I will devise a bespoke programme for the client, which will be scribed down to be taken away. This might include recorded audio practices. The programme is a home practice to be done at a time and place that suits the client. It’s important to recognise the necessity of commitment to practice the individualised programme for progress to happen. It’s up to the client how regularly, some commit to almost daily, others 3-4 times a week. The duration is made to fit the clients availability.

  • There is usually the invitation to complete the session with a restorative position, adapted to meet the clients individual need, to experience rest and develop the skill of relaxation.

  • For subsequent sessions the programme will be refined and developed based on the clients feedback.
