Join me for a Mid week de-frazzle

Restorative Yoga is specifically designed to deeply soothe the central nervous system, leaving you feeling relaxed and restored. Often our minds and bodies can feel frazzled and worn out, in need of some TLC, especially when trying to juggle our busy lives. Restorative yoga poses are designed to open the body in a gentle and comfortable way.  The supported postures encourage us to learn to relax and rest deeply and completely, reducing layers of muscular tension, whilst de compressing joints and relieving aches and pains. It is suitable for all abilities, although it requires the student to get themselves onto the floor.

Restorative Yoga has stemmed from the Iyengar tradition, and is a form of therapeutic healing. I was lucky enough to train with one of the pioneers of Restorative Yoga in the West, Judith Hanson Lasater, and here's what she's says about it:

"During deep relaxation, all the organ systems of the body are benefitted, and a few of the measurable results of deep relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure, serum triglycerides and blood sugar levels in the blood, the increase of the "good cholesterol" levels, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility, elimination, the reduction of muscular tension, insomnia and generalised fatigue."

During this class we will be using props, like bolsters and straps, to support the body in postures that allow softening and tension to release. The postures are typically held for longer periods of time than other Yoga styles, anything from 5-20 minutes. This nurturing style of Yoga is specifically beneficial for those needing to slow down, calm the body and mind and unwind.
